Interview with Sarah Snyder, co-owner
How did you get involved in this business?
I worked at Neiman Marcus for several years before getting into the bridal industry, and my business partner Aubrie works in marketing. We actually met while working for the previous owner of Blue. We were talking about starting our own boutique when the previous owner decided to put her shop up for sale. We jumped on the chance to get our business started and decided to buy the shop.
What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
We think it’s important to be different. The entire bridal industry tends to be a little bit vanilla, and while it is important to take it seriously, we’ve always felt that it’s possible to make it whimsical and fun at the same time. We try to carry our designers almost entirely exclusively, meaning our brides won’t see their dress at several other boutiques in the same city, or in most cases even the same state.
What do you like best about your line of work?
My favorite part of being an owner is buying the dresses. A lot of people think that the designers just send us the gowns for us to put in the store. In reality, we go to New York twice a year to pick and choose the styles that we think our brides will love the most. I am just a shopaholic at heart, so being the first to see the latest styles, and having the privilege to choose what to bring to the Colorado market, is an absolute thrill.
What is your business’ biggest challenge?
In business, as in life, you can’t be everything to everyone. When we first started out, of course we wanted to have the perfect dress for every single bride that walked into the store. Eventually, we had to realize that every bride has a different style and a different vision of what she’s looking for, just as every bridal store has a different assortment of gowns. Now we realize, it’s best to just be who we are and offer our brides the most well-edited selection of dresses that we can offer. The brides who share our vision will find us, and we hope, find their perfect dress.
Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
If you had asked us this question 10 years ago, we would never have guessed that we would even be working in bridal, let alone be the proud owners of two bridal boutiques before we turned 30. That being said, we are so thankful that everything has worked out as well as it has for us, and to be able to wake up every morning and be excited to go to work is beyond a dream come true.
